EDUCATING FOR LIFE AND SMX CONVENTION CENTER PRESENT THE “ON FIRE!” PHILIPPINE HOMESCHOOL CONVENTION 2018

Educating for Life or EFL, a group composed of four homeschooling moms, organizes events for homeschoolers and other individuals or groups that are into homeschooling and what we like to call "intentional education." EFL has been organizing events for families—homeschoolers, in particular—since 2014.

This year, Educating for Life (EFL) and SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier are pleased to invite you to the 2018 Philippine Homeschool Convention (PHC). This is different from but similar to previous events we have handled, particularly the Philippine Homeschool Conferences. Thus, this is the first time we will be having a Convention like this.

The Convention, with the theme “On Fire!”, draws its inspiration from the quotation commonly attributed to the poet William Yeats, but is said to originate from Greek biographer and essayist Plutarch’s original words that say, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”

As homeschoolers, we believe that our approach to education is characterized by this very concept. In homeschooling our children, we do not merely fill their minds with information. We aim for character-building that goes beyond the academics. We strive to guide our children to find what fuels them. We kindle these passions and vocations in the hopes that they find their meaning and purpose in life.

Thus, “On Fire!” is also a call to all Filipino homeschoolers—parents and children alike—to make a difference in a world that seems void of hope, empathy, and compassion. As we kindle the fire within our children and teach them life’s most important lessons, may all homeschooling families become tiny sparks that together will set the world ablaze.

To be held on September 22, 2018 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City, this year’s convention aims to gather Filipino parents and provide them with inspiration and encouragement to keep the flame burning as they fuel and kindle their children’s passion and purpose.

WHY ATTEND THE “ON FIRE!” PHILIPPINE HOMESCHOOL CONVENTION: A DOZEN REASONS AND MORE

Every participant has his or her own unique reasons for wanting to attend this year’s convention. Here are just 12 of them:

“I am very eager to homeschool my child. As a first-time mom, I want to learn more about this and connect with those who are already doing it and find a community to support [us on] this journey.”
— Glaiza Tan Reyes

“All the talks can uplift you and encourage you to go on and never give up homeschooling. It reminds me of my why’s and teaches me the how’s.” — Theresa Orteza

“What I liked most [about past conferences] was I got to see other homeschooling families and was inspired and encouraged with their stories. It’s a feeling that I’m not alone and giving me hope that if other homeschooling mothers can [do it], why can’t I through Christ who gives me strength.” — Jovi An Garcia

“The small group sessions (breakout sessions) are very helpful for people depending on which season in homeschooling they are in.” — Kim Espartero

“I love listening to the keynote speakers! They give homeschoolers like me a lot of encouragement and helpful tips for our homeschool journey. Love the expo, too! Lots of good deals!”
— Ivy San Diego-Guerrero

“Last year’s conference helped me a lot to get through the school year. So we will go back! We’ll go to refuel our passion in homeschooling our kids, learn practical tips and best practices from veteran homeschoolers, and connect with other homeschooling families.” — Kat Agdeppa-Santiago

“We will go to the PHC because my husband and I need to refuel the fire in us to teach our kids in the way they should go. To shop for new ideas, new tips, strategies, or to rediscover tried and tested ones. To be around other homeschooling families, to be encouraged (and hopefully to inspire and encourage others, too) and to be excited all over again. — May Palacpac

“We attend the Homeschool Convention year after year because of three things: 1. You learn from the experts new things you can apply in homeschooling. 2. You get to explore new teaching materials. 3. You get to meet and connect with fellow homeschooling families, and this motivates you to keep going.” — Que Gavan

“I’m terrified but I’m willing to try not only for my son but for myself… reinventing and learning again together to motivate myself in this new journey [of homeschooling]. I’m looking forward to see my son and I growing and achieving something beyond our abilities.” — Angel Lara

“[We want to attend the PHC] to recharge, to unlearn old ways and learn something new, to see acquaintances and old friends, and to meet new ones, to recharge, be inspired, and encouraged, and have contacts for resource persons.” — Racquel Guevara

“We’d like our excitement to be more fired up, be more inspired, get tips and best practices before we start with our homeschooling journey.” — Nessa Venida

“[We want to attend the PHC because] we want to be inspired and be encouraged by other homeschooling families all around the country.” — Leny Ojano-Yusay
