Mom's Day Out

Last July 15, I, together with other Momma Club moms were invited to a Mom's Day Out by Sun Life Financial Philippines held in I'M Hotel, Makati.  We were very happy to participate as it was aligned with our Momma Time events- spa parties which aim to help moms de-stress and have their me-time with other mommy friends.  We commend Sun Life for organizing this event, and for putting importance to the moms' well-being.

They played a short film which they call #SunShorts- it made me tear up even though I already watched it before.  I hope nobody noticed me crying.  Sniff.

Unbreakable bonds make life brighter

Family Life specialist Ms. Michele Alignay gave a talk on Balanced Motherhood.  The moms were all ears to Michelle as she discussed how self-care is important for us moms.  Self-care allows us to pause; it is the route for us to re-balance life and motherhood.  Self-care is about refreshing and recharging ourselves so we can take better care of our children and husband.

Ms. Michele talking about the perception of balance

How do we carve self-care?  This is what I learned:

Let us start with our perception.
1. Affirm your goodness.
2. Release control
3. Say no (when needed)
4. Be okay with feeling happy and satisfied.  It's normal.
5. Delegate stressful tasks.

We need to manage our emotions.
1. Pause during emotional highs.
2. Ditch the guilt.
3. Choose to love more.
4. Be silly with the kids.
5. Take care of your marriage.  Make it matter.

Let's carve our self-care through actions.
1. Choose to rest or sleep.  The mess can wait.  You can postpone cleaning up.
2. Extra 10 minutes of shower can do wonder.
3. Put a little color on your face.
4. Find a spot to reflect.
5. Have a daily physical activity.

The balanced motherhood

Self-care is not selfish.  Let's always remember that a well-balanced mother has more to give her family.

Had my book signed by the author, Ms. Michele.  I blogged about it:)

After Michele's talk, there was a short break and raffle prizes were given away.  Too bad I didn't win.

Then, Ms. Camille Reyes, a Unit Manager from Sun Life, discussed how to build an education fund.  I am already familiar with the stats as my husband is an advisor from Sun Life- he's not that active though and most of our clients are friends and family members only, but he is a good and trustworthy advisor.  We have been saving up for Arya's future, but the talk reminded me that my husband and I need to hustle more.

Whoah!  From a tuition fee of P30k in 1997 to P95k in 2017

Look how college tuition fees are on the rise.

When we build an education fund, we make money earn more to keep up with the cost of education.  It's brilliant.

Looking at the historical returns convinced me to invest in an education fund for Arya.  I only need to set my goal/target date, and to choose a fund that matures close to my target date.  It is also very important to have a life insurance plan.  My husband and I already have Variable Life Insurance from Sun Life.  We did not choose Sun Life just because my husband is an advisor.  In fact, it is the other way around.

After Camille's talk, it was time for massage.  Yey!  The mommas clearly enjoyed their relaxation time.  I fell asleep during the massage, it was good!

We were happy, it was evident on our faces

It did not end there, we were also treated to a sumptuous buffet.  A happy day, indeed!

The pizza is out of place.  Haha

Pork and tempura?  Why not?

I didn't like this much, though.

On behalf of the moms, kudos and thank you Sun Life and to the sponsors for this wonderful event.

Arya likes my loot!
